FREE same-day medication delivery service to patients’ hospital beds, surgery centers or provider facilities
GOUVERNEUR, NY: Kinney Drugs, the retail pharmacy and division of KPH Healthcare Services, Inc., announces a new partnership with Patient Portal Technologies (PPT), health care innovation provider, with an aim to improve the patient experience throughout the transition of care. Medx Go provides patients with the same convenient experience they expect in their everyday life: Fast, free same-day medication delivery with personalized assistance. Medx Go will bring the pharmacy to the patient in the hospital, nursing home, surgery center, providers’ facility or even to the patient’s home. PPT developed Medx Go, healthcare’s first digital patient-centric platform that unifies pharmacies, health systems, and patients with same-day medication and on-demand transportation services from the provider facility to the home. The digital platform has seen proven results for medication adherence and has reduced the hospital readmission risk for chronic patients that may require multiple healthcare appointments or treatments. “The partnership with Medx Go has enhanced Kinney’s existing hospital bedside delivery program, “Delivery at Discharge” with even more convenient and streamlined service,” said David Adsit, R.Ph., Director of Pharmacy Operations for Kinney Drugs. “Kinney Drugs has been providing transition of care services for more than 10 years and has led the industry in patient care innovations proven to reduce preventable hospital and nursing home readmissions. Expanding our “Delivery at Discharge” program, in conjunction with our existing free home prescription delivery, has allowed us to ensure that patients in our communities have convenient access to critical prescription and pharmacy services.” “Today’s announcement with Kinney Drugs is very exciting for us, because together, we can expand both medication delivery options and services in ways that few providers in the country have been able to perform,” stated Katie Ganley, VP of Business Development and Communications at Patient Portal Technologies. “Kinney’s history of success in retail pharmacy services, comprehensive store access and delivery throughout the region (Upstate New York and Vermont) are unparalleled. When you add Kinney Drugs’ ability to be creative in terms of products, services, and cost — we realized that we could provide numerous benefits in the medication delivery process to create even greater patient outcomes.” Patients who are discharged from a hospital, nursing home, surgery center, or provider facility can receive medications in-hand before leaving or opt for home delivery. PPT alleviates the hassle of waiting to get a ride to the pharmacy, fulfilling difficult medications, pending insurance authorizations, and the anguish of copay surprises. Customers enrolled in the new Medx Go program will have the added convenience of knowing their information will be up-to-date and have live personal assistance when needed. Having a company that is already familiar with your personal health to make sure that your refills, new medications, and products are right for you is an additional benefit of how this partnership is reshaping healthcare.

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT: Burlington, Vermont – The Office of the Health Care Advocate and Kinney Drugs have partnered to proactively support Vermonters who experience difficulties when it comes to getting their prescriptions. These two organizations are working collaboratively to develop a streamlined intake and referral system that will connect Vermonters with a Health Care Advocate. “Our main goal is to help people get the care they need,” said Mike Fisher, Chief Health Care Advocate, “We know how confusing and challenging our health care system can be when someone is in need of care and there is something not working for them. We serve all Vermonters and give highest priority to individuals who have an urgent need. We help Vermonters with a wide range of health insurance and access to care challenges. We give information and advice about insurance options in Vermont and assist if they have problems with enrollment. We also educate consumers about their rights and responsibilities and provide information about and assistance with appeals.” Kinney Drugs, an employee-owned company, has been providing high-quality pharmacy and healthcare services for more than 115 years. Throughout its chain of 98 locations, their pharmacy teams offer patients a personalized approach to their healthcare regimen. Patients can benefit from medication synchronization, automatic prescription refills, medication therapy management, blood pressure screenings, immunizations, diabetes management programs, and free prescription delivery. Kinney Drugs is also committed to partnering with Prescription Benefits Management companies (PBM) to provide best-in-class pharmacy services and mutually drive positive patient health outcomes. This partnership will bring together the strengths of the Kinney pharmacy staff and the Health Care Advocate to resolve any issues related to access to care or insurance. Kinney Drugs opened its first store in St. Albans nearly 60 years ago, and now has 22 locations in Vermont. Currently five Kinney Drugs pharmacies are piloting this program, and in February this partnership will be expanded to all Kinney Drugs locations in Vermont. “We are pleased to be the first pharmacy to partner with the Office of the Health Care Advocate to improve access to Vermonters who have difficulty getting their prescriptions. At a Kinney pharmacy, the Heath Care Advocate can help our patients through common care access issues such as obtaining prior authorizations for medications, insurance coverage issues, and eligibility for state and federal programs,” said David Adsit, R.Ph., Director of Pharmacy Services, Kinney Drugs. “Our pharmacists have been trained to identify patients who may benefit most from Health Care Advocate outreach and with the patient’s permission provide a direct referral to the Health Care Advocates at the Vermont Legal Aid.”
Syracuse, NY – The 24-hour Kinney Drugs store and pharmacy located at 437 Electronics Parkway in Liverpool, NY will remain open throughout the holiday season, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day. “From patients who are ill and need prescriptions filled, to customers who simply need some last-minute items for dinner or a party, we are here for them – as always – 24/7,” said David Adsit, RPh, Director of Pharmacy Operations. “Each year, our 24-hour store serves thousands of people over the holidays, when other pharmacies are closed, and some from as far away as 100+ miles. It’s important for people to know that if something happens and they need a prescription, we’re here for them.”
SYRACUSE, NY: HealtheConnections and Kinney Drugs are pleased to introduce an important new Medication Adherence Alert service – the first of its kind in New York State – designed to improve communications between patients with diabetes and/or high blood pressure and their health care providers. For those patients who opt in, the service alerts patients, their caregivers, and their health care providers when a prescription medication is not picked up after 14 days and three unsuccessful attempts to reach the patient directly. The service helps ensure that patients take their medications as prescribed, which is vitally important for controlling chronic conditions, treating temporary conditions, and for patients’ overall long-term health and well-being. The Medication Adherence Alert service leverages the HealtheConnections patient alert system, which provides more than 1.8 million alerts per month, and is designed to strengthen the partnership between pharmacy and medical providers or care managers by providing insight into a patient’s medication fill habits This service is available to patients at more than 70 Kinney Drugs stores in Central and Northern New York. Kinney Drugs and HealtheConnections have a long history of collaboration and partnership that have enabled this important service. “We’re very excited about this new cooperative service with HealtheConnections,” says David Adsit, RPh, Director of Pharmacy Operations for Kinney Drugs. “Medication adherence continues to be a major issue in healthcare, with approximately 40% of hospital readmissions occurring because patients did not take medications properly. Kinney Pharmacists find that patients do not pick up prescriptions for a wide variety of reasons, ranging from a lack of understanding as to why the medication is needed, to financial, physical and/or transportation challenges, to simple forgetfulness. With this new alerting system, we’re another step closer to helping our patients, their caregivers, and their medical team gain visibility to what is happening at the pharmacy, and thereby overcoming these challenges and taking medications as prescribed. The Medication Adherence Alert service also complements Kinney’s other services that promote medication adherence, which including automatic prescription refill and syncing of medications to a single pick-up day. In addition, Kinney Pharmacists already proactively contact patients as a reminder to pick up or refill their medications. During these conversations, our Pharmacists are focused on answering patient questions and identifying and overcoming any barriers to optimal patient care.” Rob Hack, President and CEO of HealtheConnections, agrees. The main goal, he says, is to strengthen the collaboration between patients, caregivers, medical care providers and pharmacies to provide the best patient care through better coordination and communication. “There is a gap in information once the prescription is sent from the provider to the pharmacy. We’re working together to bridge that gap. This builds upon the trust patients have with their medical care providers and their community pharmacists and puts information into action to improve patient care.” Providers are encouraged to contact their HealtheConnections’ community engagement specialist to learn more about this service or visit www.healtheconnections.org.
